From My Travel Agent Heart to Yours: MSC World America Highlights
- Heather Atkinson

I WANT TO BOOK WITH HEATHER!

Hey y’all-I just got back from cruising aboard MSC’s newest ship, MSC World America, and let me tell you, this ship is coming in hot giving the whole cruise experience.  Now, before you go thinking this is just another MSC cruise ship, let me stop you right there.  MSC World America is next-level.  With the USA market in mind, this ship couples American taste with European flair.  So sit back and enjoy some of the highlights I found on this stunning ship.
American Comforts at Sea
With American cruisers in mind, MSC World America reflects the familiar comforts and entertainment styles that we know and enjoy.  A prime example is the dazzling World Theater with headline and production shows such as Dirty Dancing, where performers dance and sing on/off stage, while this iconic movie plays along on the background screen.  And yes, there is the iconic lift.  Although this is not an elaborate Broadway-style show like you see on other contemporary cruise lines, you will find yourself tapping your feet and singing along to most of the songs from the soundtrack.

Nobody puts Baby in the corner

One more way the ship delivers is with its multiple grab-and-go food options. If you're anything like me, you're not always in the mood for a sit-down meal—especially when there's so much to explore onboard.  Thankfully, MSC   World America gets it. They’ve got plenty of options that make it easy to fuel up without slowing down.  Located on Deck 7 is Promenade Bites, a place where you can grab a hotdog, popcorn or even cotton candy.  Yes, that’s right, cotton candy.  Or, if you are around the ship’s Family Aventura district, grab yourself an empanada or brownie at Harbour Bar & Bites. There is also Luna Park Pizza and Burgers as well as Paxos on the Go with multiple grab-and-go food choices.  And look, if you want even more variety, there is always the Il Mercato buffet.

Another clear highlight onboard is the   Queen Symphonic    show held in the gorgeous Panorama Lounge.  A tribute to Queen with live vocals, aerialists and pure rock magic blended with a 36-piece orchestra projected on the backdrop screen.  It had me singing along to some of their greatest hits like “Don’t Stop Me Now” and “We Will Rock You.” Whether you're a devoted Queen fan or simply love an unforgettable live show, this performance will have you humming their iconic hits long after the show is over.

And in the mornings, don’t forget to stop at the Coffee Emporium-a coffee bar with American-style choices such as iced lattes, flavored syrups, hot chocolates, and coffee cocktails too.  This place gets packed so I suggest opting to sit outside for personalized service if the line inside is too long.  Note, there is a charge if you do not have the Easy Plus or Premium beverage package and some drinks may not be included.

You Will Fall In Love With the Yacht Club Experience

Did you know that MSC was the first cruise line to come up with the “ship within a ship” concept?  Consider the Yacht Club your exclusive pass to escape the crowds and indulge in a luxury experience that includes : Priority Boarding / disembarkation/ reservations, premium beverages,  and wifi up to four devices per person, access to a private  lounge, restaurant and sundeck  with pools, dedicated 24-hour butler service,  and access to the Thermal Suite in the MSC  Aurea Spa. The Yacht Club is its own private sanctuary  at sea.

The Yacht Club cabins are situated apart from other cabins onboard and have a private elevator to take guests to their stateroom.  From Yacht Club interior cabins on up to Yacht Club Owner’s suites, there are a variety of options; however, they do sell out fast so booking in advance is imperative.  One of my favorite Yacht Club staterooms I got to tour was the Duplex Suite.  Approximately 495 sq. feet, this suite features an open living and dining room concept, two bathrooms (one on the main floor and one upstairs), a double sofa bed and a master bedroom with a king size bed located on the upper floor.  The balcony is expansive, over 300 sq. feet and features an outdoor dining area along with a private whirlpool bath.

The Yacht Club is perfect for honeymooners or couples looking for that romantic getaway; cruisers who love the excitement of a big ship but want a quiet escape; or anyone who's been-there-done-that with traditional cruising and is ready to level up. I mean, doesn’t everyone deserve some VIP treatment while on vacay?

Other Highlights Aboard MSC World America

I could go on and on about the venues/activities/things to do onboard, because trust me, this ship is stacked with so many to choose from with over 19 unique dining experiences and 20 vibrant bars and lounges.  Here are just a few of my favorite ones you should pencil in for your cruise:

  • MSC’s signature chocolate shop by Jean-Phiippe Maury (yes, he is a pastry wiz).  You can even watch the chefs create chocolate masterpieces which they often put on display.  Oh, and if chocolate isn’t your thing, don’t worry—they also offer a tempting selection of gelato and a variety of flavorful macarons to satisfy your sweet tooth.
  • The adults-only venue, The Loft, features comedians, karaoke and dueling piano sing-along entertainment.  Shows last about 45 minutes and run throughout the night.
  • Head over to the Masters of the Sea Pub for a laid-back vibe, live music in the evenings, and a great selection of craft beers, including some brewed right onboard. It is the perfect spot to unwind, mingle, and savor a pint (or two).
  • Feel the adrenaline kick in on Cliffhanger, the only over-water swing at sea, where you will soar 160 feet above the ocean. Designed to seat up to four thrill-seekers at a time, it is an unforgettable experience (just be sure to check the height and weight restrictions).
  • Step into the Formula 1 Simulator, a full-scale, race car-style experience that puts you right in the driver’s seat. This high-tech capsule lets you feel every turn, bump, and burst of acceleration as you race like a pro (just try not to crash like I did!). Heads up: there’s usually a small fee to ride.
  • Reserved for adults only, the Zen Area features two tranquil pools, the Zen Pool and the Botanic Garden Pool.  This area was designed to help you fully unwind. Surrounded by plush loungers and calming music, it is the ultimate spot for relaxation and rejuvenation.
  • Yes, there’s even a hidden Speakeasy aboard MSC World America, but it is not something you will find advertised. Entry is by invitation only, with exclusive tokens quietly given to select guests each sailing. So, be friendly with the crew, stay alert for subtle clues, and remember…discretion is everything.
